Lucas van der Merwe has been breeding with Boerboel dogs since the late seventies and has been a founder member of both the SABT and the HBSA.
Lucas has many stories to tell about the Boerboel dogs that he knew on the farms in the 1930's where he grew up as a child. Mizpah have been home to Boerboel dogs since the 1970's and Lucas has been instrumental in establishing the Boerboel in it's current position.

1979 Founding of a Boerboel bloodline with Mizpah Plestiek & Mizpah Flenters.

1983 Founding of the SABT. Lucas was member no 3 of the SABT and has been the chairman of the SABT for many years. Presently Lucas is an honorary life member of the SABT and serves on the board of the SABT.

1986 Boerboel tour with Jannie Bouwer in order to locate Boerboel dogs remaining on farms in South Africa.

1998 Founding of the HBSA. Lucas was member no 2 of the HBSA and has been a member of that organisation for many years and served on the board. The HBSA was established to preserve historical bloodlines in the Boerboel, specifically piebald Boerboels that were disallowed by the SABT at the time.

1999 Tour to Europe to appraise Boerboel dogs by Jannie and Bokkie Roodt and Lucas van der Merwe.

2000 Tour to Europe by Lucas van der Merwe and Carin Yorke-Hart to appraise Boerboel dogs. The father-daughter combination of appraisal was very popular in Europe.

2002 Tour to Scandinavia to view and appraise Boerboel dogs.
